Show jumping exercises for young horses

Spread the love

Show jumping exercises for young horses are essential for the production of all young showjumpers. When producing a young horse it is important that you don’t make the exercises too advanced. However, you also need to be laying the foundations that will make the job easier for both horse and rider.

So if you are looking for show jumping exercises for young horses you won’t go far wrong with this one. This is a brilliant exercise to work on their turns. I’ve also added two related distances to it, just to make it a little more versatile. So in a nutshell, you really can’t go wrong by setting this exercise up in your arena.

SETUP

Number 1
So down one side of your arena, set up an oxer.
Number 2
Then 28 paces away set up a vertical. That’s your first related distance, and its 6 strides.
Number 3
Then in line with the first vertical, set up an oxer at a slight angle facing toward the side of the arena like so.
Number 4
Then set up a vertical in line with the oxer, but at an angle, so that these two jumps make wide V.
Number 5
Then in line with the vertical set up an oxer perpendicular to the side of your arena.
Number 6
And then 20 paces away set up your last vertical. That will give you your second related distance, which rides 4 strides.
