Stud Girths are a piece of tack I feel should be worn every time your horse jumps. People make the mistake of only using them when they are competing, or when the horse is in fact wearing studs. I believe this to be misguided. I have seen quite harsh marks left on my stud girths when jumping at home on sand. Two very good reasons for always using them are: It can’t be very pleasant to have your metal shoes knocking you under your chest. Secondly, I don’t want to discourage my horses from being sharp in front. So get one for your horse. You’ll get a little feeling of pride when you check under the girth and see where your horse has hit the stud girth.
